There’s no ‘one size fits all’ answer to this as people’s needs vary in a number of ways, and therefore I offer many options as detailed below.
SESSION FREQUENCY
Some people start with weekly sessions and find them so useful that they are eager for the next session to come around, and they continue weekly until the time comes that want to manage more under their own steam, at which point they stretch out session durations to fortnightly, or even every three or four weeks.
Some people start sessions by choosing fortnightly or longer because know straight away that weekly would be too frequent, sometimes because of the time they need to process what was explored in a session or sometimes due to practical limitations like costs or the time they have available.
I'd suggest not going beyond once a month for regular sessions.
REGULAR SLOTS OR FLEXIBLE BOOKING
I offer the option of booking sessions for a regular set day of the week and time of day (1pm every Thursdays for example) for people who like to have the certainty and regularity that brings, or alternatively I can provide flexible booking slots chosen from a slot that works with our forthcoming availabilities. This option works well for people who do shift work or have obligations that are irregular and less predictable.
THERAPY DURATION
Some people find that just a few sessions gives them what they needed from therapy and that's all they have.
Others know that the work they need to do has deep roots and they value a longer term therapy relationship. The important thing is for us both to be mindful that therapy shouldn’t become a crutch, and the goal is to move you beyond the need to have sessions.
Whichever option you choose we’re able to tweak or revise it if and when the need arises, and if you have needs that I’ve not listed I’d be happy to hear what they are to see if they could be accommodated.
